Wondering about learning Chinese through Chinese mythology

So, I've been looking for topics that I'd find interesting to learn about in Chinese (the classroom unit themes of going to see the Beijing Opera, hearing/reading about a man book a hotel room, or discussing why you should never give someone an umbrella/alarm clock/pear are kind of dry). Among those, I think I'm most interested in Chinese mythology since I've always been a fan of Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Japanese mythology, so I'm hoping I can find the same sort of connection. That said, I really don't know where to start; My reading level in Chinese is somewhere around A2 or B1, so I can't just pick up any book in Chinese and start reading away. But I don't just want the wikipedia article equivalent of learning Chinese mythology, either. Anyone have any ideas/resources?
