Pronunciation I+o, I+ong, I+ao

I = Initial

I have read that the IPA pronunciation for these pinyin syllables are:

I+o --> I+/wo/

I+ong --> I+/ʊng/

I+ao --> I+/au/

However, in all the audios I have listened to, the speaker always pronounce them more like one would naively infer from their orthography, namely:

I+o --> I+/o/

I+ong --> I+/ong/

I+ao --> I+/ao/

Is it me, is this pronunciation more common than the IPA I referred to, or what is it?

谢谢!
