Last summer, I visited the south of China after about a year of studying the language. I could speak just fine (more or less) but the real problem was comprehension. I rarely ever understood someone without asking them to repeat themselves. The thing is, there are so many distinct accents and dialects that it seems impossible to have a true comprehension of the language! Anyone have any tips on how to train yourself to understand the many dialects that one may come across?
