Gonna buy my first Chinese book, is now a good time? (at my level?) tips on how to study?

I'm thinking about ordering Marie Kondo's "Tidying Up" book called "Magic Housekeeping" in Chinese. :D.

I only know 700 words but the words at least in the English version aren't too complicated/obscure/rare. Should i wait til i know more like 1,500 characters?

Do i read line by line and find every word i don't know? Do you write notes in the book? Any tips?

(and i can't get the kindle version cuz that s--t is $92. lol. Although a Kindle version would be much faster to look up words, perhaps should i just find a different book that has a reasonably priced Kindle version?
