What's the difference between these two words of similar meaning?

I've found two words that mean something similar. I can't be bothered to look at example sentences for either of them, or expose myself to enough input to understand the differences in how they are used, so if you guys could give me some kind of magical explanation so I can use them perfectly that would be great k thanks
