I've been learning Mandarin on and off for some time now and I recently decided to commit to learning it this year. There is a restaurant that I frequent and try to practice with the owner there. She's very kind and is always happy to hear me trying to speak her own language! It's always a joy to speak with her because I feel so encouraged afterward.
The problem is, I can struggle to make the tones when it's just the two of us but during the lunch rush or dinner I freeze up. I had the same issue when I was learning to speak Spanish but now I can speak that fine. I think I'm just scared of messing up the tones or sounding weird in front of people.
Any tips to get over the fear of messing up / forgetting which tone to do? I've found Chinese to be quite fun but producing the correct tones are really holding back my learning :(
