What's something you learned embarrassingly late about the Chinese language?

I'll start:

The difference between 丑 and 臭. For a while there, I thought people were calling ugly people "stinky".

Also, that when you put two third-tone characters together, the first one pretty much becomes a second tone: 他好丑
