So apparently the "knowing 500 chinese characters lets to know 75% of the written content" isn't so truthful..

Knowing 500 let's you know 75% of Chinese characters used, sounds good. 3000 let's you know basically all. Wow sounds easy enough? Well, apparently "how many Chinese characters do I need to know" doesn't mean how many Chinese "words" do I need to know. 3000 Chinese characters can be used to make up 10,000 Chinese words?! Hmmm. So how many Chinese "words" do we really need to know?
