New to learning Mandarin

你好! Hello!

My name is 多丽丝 and I recently started to learn Mandarin at school. I was wondering what is the best way of learning the characters (simplified) ?

My teacher let us study 3 characters a day, but sometimes I seem to completely forget what i learned before! I know that repetition is important! but what other steps could I take?
