Can someone explain the grammar behind this sentence?

I recently came across this sentence in a fan translation for a game I was playing which went

我刚才是想为对着海鸥大吼大叫的行为找一个借口。

What’s confusing me is why the verbs 想 and 找 are separated, I thought when you put a prepositional phrase in a sentence, it went between the subject and the verbs like in 我和我好朋友们找个餐馆。

Could someone explain? Sorry if I’m being dumb.
