My review of using a kindle and Chinese to English dictionary to read Chinese books: not quite perfect yet.

So I have the most basic Kindle, the 80$ one, and I picked up this Chinese to English dictionary:

And then I got 2 graded readers (Books in Chinese that are written at a certain HSK level): Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Rabbit and His Friends

It all was super easy it took like 5 minutes and cost 15$, the dictionary totally works, you highlight a word and it gives you the English definition and example sentences, just like Pleco. In addition it has web based sentence translation if you want to translate a sentence (Translation only gives English, no pinyin or tones for the characters and this is native to the Kindle you don't need to buy anything extra for this). But the problem I am having is in highlighting only the characters I want to look up in the dictionary. The kindle automatically highlights phrases, and I am having trouble getting it to only highlight certain words. So it will always add the 的 at the end of a word, and will sometimes add the punctuation like . and ? and there is no way I have found to adjust what you are highlighting. But if your dictionary can't look it up because it has a question mark in there, you can always use the translation.

Maybe I just have fat fingers, I don't know. But the Kindle is so close to being the best new Chinese learning tool since the smartphone!
