Pet names and nicknames in Chinese?

I've been curious recently how Chinese people call their pets, like dogs and cats. Like in English, if I talk to my dog I'll call him or her a good boy or good girl. Sometimes I'll call him buddy, my little boy, stuff like that, you know? So how would a native Chinese person talk to their animals? Also, as far as names go, do animals usually get named similar names as people, or are there "pet names"? Like in English how a common dog name is Spot, but you'd never meet a person named Spot

Just a question that randomly popped into my mind, if anyone knows, I'd love to know too!
