I'm currently watching Nirvana in Fire, and I have a few questions regarding the quasi-Classical Chinese (don't know how to accurately describe it) they speak in dramas like this.
How difficult is it to understand for native speakers when compared to a contemporary tv-show? Both with and without subtitles. Would any 12 year old be able to understand it?
What kind of feeling does this kind of language give? Any English examples that you can compare it to? Listening to "Shakespearean English"?
